Global harmonisation of operational standards and procedures is paramount for our future. In particular, the establishment of seamless airspace will take on increasing importance as modernisation efforts progress in the next few years. SESAR and NextGen will set the stage for operations and system development for the coming decades; not only impacting the EU and United States, but influencing ANSPs around the globe. It is of utmost importance that ANSPs and associated stakeholders take a lead in this area now.
Primary goals for the SAWG include defining the core functional areas which CANSO will recommend to ICAO as the common points of standardisation for global interoperability (ICAO Seminar - Montreal, September 2008) ; and, developing a list of key functions that should be part of future interoperability demonstrations in order to accelerate seamless interaction across ANSPs.
