CANSO BEGINS NEW ERA
11 March 2008
Members vote for new policy focus, more resources
CANSO, the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation, has begun a new era by agreeing to implement a new strategic programme called ‘Imagine 2010’, put before them on March 10th. At a crucial Extraordinary General Meeting in Amsterdam, the CANSO membership endorsed the plans put forward by the organisation’s Executive Committee, which will give CANSO greater resources to tackle the most vital issues facing ATM today.
New policy focus on Safety, Environment and Business Transformation
CANSO members have agreed to focus on three main issues, which will consume the bulk of the organisation’s resources. The creation of safety metrics, an increased emphasis on environmental solutions, and a focus on the transformation of the ATM business, will be funded through increased Member fees and greater commercial activity, as well as through Members seconding staff to work on CANSO issues.
CANSO Chairman Ashley Smout said
“The Executive Committee is delighted that the membership has accepted our proposals. The adoption of the ‘Imagine 2010’ strategic review will bring CANSO into a position of leadership on ATM issues across the world. We will be able to expand our membership, deliver new products and business solutions to ANSPs, and work on improving the safety and environmental performance of ATM.”
CANSO Secretary General Alexander ter Kuile said
“CANSO will now have the resources to become the genuine global voice of ATM, ensuring that we are able to act on behalf of ANSPs on the crucial issues. The challenges of interoperability and increased capacity and safety, while improving environmental performance, cannot be tackled by ANSPs alone. They need a strong trade association working to achieve this, and Imagine 2010 gives us the mandate to deliver real value to the aviation industry.”
