CANSO, the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation is delighted to announce that ISAVIA, the air navigation service provider of Iceland, has become the latest full member of CANSO.
On 1 January 2007 the Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration (ICAA) was separated into a regulatory organisation and ISAVIA, a state-owned company responsible for providing air navigation services (ANS) as well for operating the nation’s airports. ISAVIA’s Reykjavik Control Centre handles about 25% of the international air traffic crossing the North Atlantic.
“We are delighted to welcome ISAVIA into the global ANSP community of CANSO,” said secretary general Alexander ter Kuile. “ISAVIA has a vital role in providing safe and efficient domestic and transatlantic air navigation services alongside an expertise in ensuring safe airline operations at airports in some of the most challenging weather conditions.”
With ISAVIA’s membership, there are now 45 ANSPs represented in CANSO.
