Introducing the Waypoint 2013 Strategy
At the CANSO Annual General Meeting in June 2010, the Members unanimously endorsed the following resolution:
The AGM approves the Waypoint Strategy, defined as follows:
- Be the clear voice of ANSPs
- Lead the transformation of global ANS performance
- Optimise the effectiveness of the Organisation
|
These three elements of the Waypoint Strategy are designed to help CANSO reach its Global Vision for the Future of Air Navigation Services, which has a seamless ANS system as its central objective.
 |
CANSO has defined its core mission as ‘transforming global ATM performance’. Only through a transformation in performance can Air Navigation Service Providers deliver a seamless system, offering maximum safety, efficiency and capacity. The reference to ‘global ATM’ reminds us that CANSO is the global voice of Air Traffic Management – the only international organszation that speaks for ANSPs in global forums like ICAO, the European Commission, and to Governments in the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Americas.
Transformation of global ATM performance will be achieved primarily through the implementation of best practices. Much of CANSO’s previous strategy, Imagine 2010 (see video), was concerned with defining where best practice exists or where it is needed. The Waypoint strategy will focus on helping the industry to implement those best practices, to lift the performance of the whole ANS system.

The three-year Waypoint steps will progressively build towards the Global Vision, ensuring CANSO members are on a continuing path of performance improvement, to benefit airspace users worldwide.

The Waypoint Strategy focuses on three lead programmes: Safety, Operations and Policy. Most of the 10 Global Vision sections are grouped under these Programmes. Each of the Lead Programmes has its own Workplan designed to drive the implementation of best practice and the transformation of global ATM performance. |
