Americas

The Americas contains a significant variety of different types of ANSP model. CANSO’s members in North America are the Federal Aviation Administration/Air Traffic Organization of the USA and NAV CANADA. While both handling a complex and sophisticated traffic mix, their structures are entirely different: the FAA/ATO remains a government department, albeit with functional separation between regulation and service provision. The Canadians have privatised their ANSP as a not-for-profit body, operating entirely independently of the government. In South America CANSO is seeking members and industry partners to encourage the strengthening of the ATM system, and we have recently gained our first Caribbean member (Netherlands Antilles ATC).
