Organisation overview
The overriding priority of Kazaeronavigatsia, the Republic of Kazakhstan’s National Air Navigation Services Provider (ANSP), is rendering a safe service. International modernisation programmes as well as those carried out by Kazaeronavigatsia have shown that the best way forward is through the automation of air traffic control processes.
A comprehensive programme, fully compliant with international approach to establishment of advanced ATM systems, has been underway since 1995. In this time , automated ATC systems have been commissioned in Almaty (1996), Astana (2005), Aktobe (1997), and Shymkent (2006).
Automation of ATC processes has allowed the integration of individual ATM areas into AS ATC Centres. This has facilitated the enlargement of the flight information regions and the reduction in their numbers from 18 in 1998 to 6 in 2007.
From 2000-2001 Almaty and Astana airports commissioned control Towers equipped with up-to-date automated approach systems and arrangements are being made for the installation of new equipment in the Aktobe AS ATC Centre.
At each stage of the modernisation programme, every centre will receive new technology solutions including advanced technologies and methods of air traffic control, for example satellite-based navigation systems, ADS-B, automated data interchange systems (between the ground and onboard systems) and digital "air-to-ground" communication systems. Upon completion of the programme, Kazakhstan will have an integrated next-generation automated air traffic control system.
