CANSO, the Global Voice of ATM, has publicly celebrated the conclusion of its Imagine 2010 Strategic Programme, with a ceremony at the start of its Global ATM Summit in Oslo, yesterday.

A video illustrating how Imagine 2010 made CANSO ‘The Global Voice of ATM’ was followed by a speech from CANSO Chairman Ashley Smout. Presentations were also made to the four ANSPs who seconded people to help lead the four key Imagine 2010 programmes: Safety, Environment, Business Transformation, and Operations.

Extracts from Ashley’s speech:

“I’m tremendously proud of what we’ve achieved. There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ve succeeded in becoming the Global Voice of ATM. We’ve grown our membership significantly and added strategically important members. We have added regional offices in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East. And at ICAO, we have been granted Observer status and have established ourselves as the ‘how it should be done’ to ICAO’s ‘what should be done’.

We’re building a three-legged stool of membership fees, commercial revenues, and leveraging Member resources, and I think Imagine 2010 has taken us a long way towards that.

But what does being the global voice mean? It means being able to speak with authority and respect on the issues that matter. CANSO’s voice is only starting to be heard….sometimes we are still lost for words, but we are growing up fast.”
Hank Krakowski was one of four CEOs thanked for seconding their 'best and brightest' to lead Imagine 2010 programmes.
The delegates then heard from the leaders of the four main work programmes. On Safety, delegates were told of the unique CANSO Standard of Excellence for Safety Management Systems. Paul Barron accepted an award on behalf of NATS, for seconding Richard Schofield and Brendan Booth to be CANSO’s Safety Managers. For the Environment programme, Greg Russell CEO of Airservices Australia was presented with a commemorative cover of the ATM Global Efficiency Goals to 2050 report, in recognition of his seconding of Adam Phelan and Tim Rees as CANSO Environment managers. Dieter Kaden was thanked for his seconding of Gudrun Held as Director for Business Transformation. Gudrun explained that ‘Business Transformation is a journey”, and acknowledged the work in Middle East, as well as the crucial ANSP Fitness Check. Finally, on Operations, the FAA was acknowledged for seconding Dan Smiley to lead the new Operations Standing Committee. FAA COO Hank Krakowski received a symbolic cover of the OSC’s response to the IATA User Requirements document.
