Antofagasta ATC Tower Modernised with a FREQUENTIS Voice Communication System

DGAC Chile asked Frequentis to supply it with one of the company’s future-proof voice communication control systems (VCCS)
DGAC Chile asked Frequentis to supply it with one of the company’s future-proof voice communication control systems (VCCS). In order to meet the inherent requirement for high reliability in an ATC switching system, Frequentis delivered its VCS 3020X system. The new equipment went into operation in August 2010.

The VCS 3020X voice communication system employs state of the art technology for digital voice communications. It is based on a unique, highly modular, distributed and decentralised architecture that incorporates extensive redundancy - providing a true parallel operation core switch with duplicated data and audio paths. The VCS 3020X features the very latest user interface technology, such as sunlight-readable colour touch panels.

The VCS 3020X system has built in flexibility that allows it to adapt to future requirements, including support for integration within IP-based environments. It complies in full with EUROCAE WG67 specifications. The system also offers an integrated, but independent, IP A/G and G/G backup communication system as well as certain emergency support functions. Its basic functionality can include all kinds of radio connectivity (analogue, 2Mbit or fully IP).
