AIS-AIM

The AIS-AIM Workgroup is addressing the issues surrounding the transition to the future seamless provision of Aeronautical Information. ANSPs use the Workgroup to:

  • Interact with ICAO and influence the regulatory and institutional framework of future AIM, and alter the provision of fixed products to the provision of information,
  • Jointly determine with other stakeholders how best to manage the transition to AIM on a global basis and make informed decisions and investments in future standards, processes and systems,
  • Share best practices in achieving a higher level of performance in the provision of (aeronautical) information management services.

Benchmarking

One of CANSO’s key strategic goals is to support harmonisation of global ANS and improve ATM service delivery. Global benchmarking of ANSP economic, safety, environmental, and quality performance measurements remains one of the most effective management tools to support improvements in ANS service provision.

CANSO’s Global Benchmarking reports provide a reasoned comparison between and among the world’s air navigation service providers (ANSPs) and also facilitate the identification of best practices.

Human Resources

The Human Resources Workgroup supports the creation of global Human Resources standards in Air Navigation Services, exchange information on ANSP Human Resources activities, initiate joint programmes between ANSPs where possible, seek Best Practice in ANSP Human Resources activities and consider new Human Resources Tools and Systems. The Workgroup continues to progress its three key priorities for 2008-9 which are:

  • Change Management – identify and publish Best Practice Guidance for AGM 2009;
  • ATCO Shortages – Develop Best Practice Guidance for Selection, Recruitment, Training and Workforce Planning;
  • Develop People Metrics – Develop a range of metrics to benchmark ATCO performance in remuneration, overtime, absenteeism, turnover, and retention.

Quality Management

The Quality Management Workgroup addresses a range of QM issues, including the need for Integrated Management Systems (IMS) which integrate all management disciplines (e.g. safety, security, quality, environment) in one system. Quality Management enables effective Business Transformation, which is why this Workgroup is part of CANSO’s Business Transformation Programme.

Seamless Airspace

Global harmonisation of operational standards and procedures is key to improving the safety and efficiency of Air Navigation Service provision. SESAR in Europe and NextGen in the United States will set the stage for operations and system development for the coming decades, and will influence ANSPs around the globe.

Because of this, ANSPs and associated stakeholders must take a leading role in the development of Seamless Airspace.
