ANSP Statistics

CANSO collates a number of key industry statistics which it uses to better understand industry trends, and to benchmark ANSP performance. One key statistic is the amount of IFR movements handled by each CANSO member. Each month the previous monthly activity per member will be published on this page, and in CANSO News.

CANSO members calculate IFR movements as a combination of total domestic flights, plus overflights, plus international arrivals and departures

Further industry data can be found in the ANSP Global Benchmarking summary document which is available on the ATM Performance page.

December 2009 vs December 2008

In December 2009, half the reporting ANSPs controlled a larger number of movements compared to the same period last year. However, as 22 ANSPs reported fewer movements, the month’s data sends a mixed message.

In Asia-Pacific, CAAS, the ANSP for Singapore continued in its positive growth trend, with an increase of 6.4% in the number of movements compared with December last year.

State ATM Corporation - Russia also experienced growth, with an increase of nearly 3.4% over last year.

In contrast, the number of movements controlled by many northern European ANSPs remains in decline

Year to Date

In December 2009, CANSO Member ANSPs controlled 0.7% fewer movements than in the same period last year. Combined with a 0.5% difference in November, the data suggest the beginning of an aviation sector recovery.
