CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Conference 2018: An ANSP Perspective

7 November 2018

Rohan Garib, Executive Manager, Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority, provides an ANSP perspective on the Latin America and Caribbean Conference 2018.

The CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Conference 2018 has been extremely interesting. It is great to come together with industry peers to learn about key developments in the region and in particular the major improvements that Argentina has made over the last few years in the aviation sector. EANA has set a great example to the region and it is important to recognise the lessons that can be learnt and best practice we can share.

The session and discussion on investment in air navigation infrastructure was thought provoking. The panel was well balanced and provided great insight into factors related to securing funding and improving ANS infrastructure, which many ANSPs will have found useful.

In addition, the session on cybersecurity was really informative and has definitely given us all things to consider in our own organisations. The threat is real and we all need to take the necessary steps to identify potential threats, protect and manage or systems and have contingency plans in case of an attack.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the participants for their informative and insightful presentations and discussions, and to say to all of my colleagues in the region, what an important opportunity we have to work together to make real progress in Latin America and the Caribbean, and deliver real value for our aviation industry partners.

We look forward to the next CANSO event!
