CANSO to support the Future Air Transportation Systems Summit

12 November 2014

It was announced today that the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) is supporting the forthcoming Future Air Transportation Systems Summit as a Strategic Partner.

Officially endorsed and co-organised by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the theme of this Summit is how the aviation industry is a key economic driver not just for the UAE, but for the whole of the Middle East region. Due to the aviation industry’s phenomenal growth in recent years, air traffic management capacity in the region could begin to constrain continued economic growth. Simply modernising the region’s airspace management will not maximise efficiency gains that will lead to increased air traffic management capacity. There needs to be coordination between all the stakeholders and harmonisation of their systems at a local and regional level.

Ahmed Al Jallaf, Assistant Director General for Air Navigation Services and Chairman of the ICAO Middle East Airspace Enhancement Programme, commented “We are delighted that CANSO is supporting the Future Air Transportation Systems Summit. This adds to our confidence that this Summit will be attended by senior decision makers and government officials responsible for developing the region’s air traffic management.”

Jeff Poole, Director General of CANSO Said “Transforming air traffic management performance in the Middle East is a major priority for CANSO and its Members. The Future Air Transportations Systems Summit is an excellent forum in which to address the key issues of improving efficiency and working towards airspace harmonisation in the region. We are delighted that CANSO has been given the opportunity to organise two thought-provoking sessions at the Summit that will complement and inform the meeting of the ICAO Middle East Airspace Enhancement Programme (MAEP) being held in the same location after the Summit. These discussions will reinforce MAEP as the single common regional airspace initiative in the Middle East.”

The Future Air Transportation Systems Summit will be held at the Conrad hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 18 - 19 January 2015. Please visit www.futureairtransport.com for further information about this summit.
