Command and control center operational at AAI

19 April 2017

Airports Authority of India (AAI) has joined a select and small group of organizations that has implemented advanced air traffic flow management capabilities.

Through a contract between AAI and Atech Negócios em Tecnologias S/A, an EMBRAER Group company, the SKYFLOW solution was supplied, installed, tested and commissioned at the Central Air Traffic Flow Management - Command and Control Center in New Delhi, which entered in operation by late January, 2017. The inauguration took place with participation of AAI board members, senior officers of AAI, representative of Airlines and others.

The C-ATFM System counts with a main and a backup center, both installed in New Delhi, and 36 Flow Management Positions installed at 12 En-Route Control Centers (ACC) and 24 Approach Control Centers (APP) all over India.

In developing the safety case, operational training plans and the certification process for the system, AAI/Atech was supported by DFS - Deutsche Flugsicherung. During implementation phase, Atech also worked together with Three D Integrated Solutions, an Indian systems engineering firm.

Skyflow integrates flight plan data from aircraft operators, airports and air navigation service providers among others, with weather information in a unified database. The system is specially designed to facilitate air traffic flow management in the strategic phases of flight scheduling, as well as the tactical management of daily operations. The resulting common situational awareness of the relevant stakeholders assists in ensuring benefits like fuel savings and increasing the punctuality of flights. At the same time, the system also provides a platform for Collaborative Decision Making.

Using state-of-art technology, the new Facility is deemed to support the rapidly increasing demand of air traffic in India. During 2017, Atech and AAI continue working together to validate and deploy the second phase of the project, including additional Traffic Management Initiatives facilitated through the SKYFLOW system.
