Managing the Argentinean airspace with FREQUENTIS solutions

3 March 2016

DGCTA (Dirección General de Control de Tránsito Aéreo) relies on next-generation ATM solutions from Frequentis to modernise the Argentinean airspace. End-to-end voice communication based on IP technology will enable the four area control centres – Comodoro Rivadavia, Ezeiza, Cordoba and Mendoza – to provide an ATM-grade network solution and to fulfil EUROCAE (European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment) standard ED-137.

Frequentis solutions will enhance the management of the Argentinean airspace through IP technology using integrated end-to-end voice communication and recording. In cooperation with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), the DGCTA awarded Frequentis the contract to modernise several systems. The area control centres Comodoro Rivadavia and Ezeiza will be equipped with the end-to-end IP voice communication system VCS3020X and the recording system DIVOS 3 log. In addition to the general modernisation of communication and recording systems in the four area control centres and in six towers, the ATM-grade network solution will support seamless integration of a 3rd party voice communication system in Cordoba, along with the existing Frequentis voice communication system in Mendoza.

Argentina is a leader in the implementation of new technologies within South America. The new area control centre systems will not only provide voice communication and recording on the same platform, with the Frequentis ATM-grade IP network solution, it is also possible to integrate latest IP and existing analogue radios via different network layers.

“We are already used to the highest availability of Frequentis systems in combination with very reliable project implementation and therefore trust Frequentis for its next-generation ATM solutions. This will enable us to fulfil the national migration from digital to IP technology”, states Brigadier José Palermo, General Director of DGCTA.

“With our experience and expertise from more than forty-four nationwide safety-critical networks we are proud to support the Argentinean airspace to enable the DGCTA to provide safer and more cost-effective air traffic management”, says Hannu Juurakko, Vice President ATM Civil at Frequentis.
