MITRE Partners with Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS)

5 March 2014

The MITRE Corporation (MITRE) formalised its partnership with Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS) during World ATM Congress 2014 in Madrid, Spain, March 4-6.

MITRE signed a five-year framework agreement with DANS to continue developing innovative and enduring solutions for the complex aviation infrastructure and air traffic management challenges facing Dubai. This agreement further strengthens the close working relationship cultivated between DANS, Dubai Airports, and MITRE over the past four years.

In this time, MITRE has developed advanced air traffic concepts for optimising airside capacity at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and is integral to the DANS project team delivering dual arrival streams at DXB using these concepts.

“Dubai is strategically positioned to serve as an aviation hub in the Middle East, and can serve as a model of safety, efficiency, and service to the region, which is facing complex aviation challenges and rising demand,” said Lillian Ryals, senior vice president and general manager of MITRE’s Center for Advanced Aviation System Development. “We are pleased to be partnering with DANS in this important endeavor.”

“Dubai’s continued impressive growth in the aviation sector requires DANS to find innovative, cutting-edge solutions to provide the required capacity in Air Traffic Services. We are pleased to engage MITRE to provide us with their input to these advanced solutions,” said Ibrahim Ahli, senior vice president at DANS.

The collaborative activities MITRE and DANS have initially agreed to undertake include air traffic management research and development as well as knowledge and technology sharing initiatives. These initiatives span the areas of airside concept development, Performance-Based Navigation procedures and airspace design, benefit-cost analysis, and air traffic safety assessment.
