Helios

Organisation Overview

Helios is an award-winning management and technology consultancy specialising in air traffic management, airports and space. The company is part of Egis, an international group offering engineering, project structuring and operations services. An acknowledged market leader, Helios helps customers improve economic, business and operational performance.

Helios has been active in the strategic development of the ATM industry for many years. In Europe this has focused on the Single European Sky where its experts have helped shape European regulations, conducted regulatory impact assessments and developed proposals for sector reform. Their work on this and for the Industry Consultation Body means they are especially well-placed to help ANSPs respond to regulatory requirements. In Asia and Middle East the focus has been on capacity building and institutional strengthening, where Helios has worked with local teams to assess requirements, implement improvements and transfer knowledge.

Managing risk is a core function of ANS provision and an area that is undergoing substantial change and development. Helios is known for its skill at analysing and mitigating risk in the ATM operational and business environment, applying and tailoring approaches to meet the local challenges. Safety management systems and safety assessments are supplemented by training to ensure that best practice is shared.

Performance management is a key area of expertise, where Helios can develop performance frameworks and models to understand the impacts of technological or procedural change. The company has worked with the Eurocontrol PRU, the EC, regulators and ANSPs on international benchmarking projects and works in partnership with CANSO to produce the Global Performance Report, CANSO’s primary annual publication on ANS performance.

Investment decisions in any industry require sound economic analysis, but in the aviation industry they are especially complex. Helios has unique experience in this field and provides expertise on business planning, loan financing, and cost-benefit analysis at both project and system level. The team also has in-depth understanding of CNS/ATM technologies and supports all stages of the technology lifecycle, including technology audits, validation exercises and standards development.

In addition to a UK head office, Helios has offices in Dubai and Slovakia.
