Remarks of CANSO Director General, Jeff Poole, to the World Civil Aviation Chief Executives Forum

19 August 2015

Speaking at the World Civil Aviation Chief Executives Forum in Singapore, CANSO Director General, Jeff Poole, outlined how air traffic management (ATM) is the true enabler of aviation connectivity and development. Efficient ATM enables airlines and airports to provide the connectivity that drives economic and social development and provide access to markets.

If the economic and social benefits of aviation are to be fully realised, the ATM industry must exploit the opportunities offered by new technologies and system upgrades to transform ATM performance globally.

There are three important developments that give the ATM industry the opportunity to lead change to enable aviation development: technological advances; the commitment of States to implement system upgrades; and a greater willingness to cooperate across States boundaries to harmonise airspace.
