Namibia DCA and FREQUENTIS Partner for End-to-End IP ATC Voice Communications and Virtualised Recording Systems

31 August 2015

The Namibian Directorate of Civil Aviation (NDCA) has chosen Frequentis and their Namibian Partner Teltech to modernise its voice communication and recording infrastructure. The integrated VCS3020X and DIVOS 3 log recorder project will bring NDCA the technologically most advanced ATC voice solution available, together with rapid project deployment and the lowest total cost of ownership. NDCA's decision shows that another customer trusts Frequentis' innovative and proven voice communication solutions.

The system consists of an end-to-end IP VCS3020X voice communication system (VCS), combined with DIVOS 3 log recording and investigation software. The VCS has 47 Voice over IP (VoIP) working positions, and is fully prepared for the future use of native ED-137 IP-radio equipment. The DIVOS recorder software is deployed on a virtualised server architecture, giving NDCA the lowest lifecycle cost and highest availability of any recorder on the market. With the use of remote VoIP working positions for the tower at Windhoek Airport and the training centre, the infrastructure programme is complete.

Tobias Günzel, Deputy Director for Aviation Administration and Navigation at NDCA, announces: "With the modernisation of our voice communication and recording infrastructure, we want to take a big step forward to increase safety and lower our overall cost of operation. The upgrade process needs to be fast and cost-effective, while allowing uninterrupted ATM operations. With Frequentis and Teltech we have found the right counterparts – experienced and reliable partners to support us in meeting our ATM challenge."

Frequentis is proud to establish this new relationship with Namibia's Directorate of Civil Aviation. Hannu Juurakko, Vice President Air Traffic Management Civil at Frequentis, says: "We are honoured that NDCA has entrusted us with the modernisation of its voice communication and recording solution. We warmly welcome NDCA as a new customer and look forward to a successful, and long-term partnership."
