Remarks of CANSO Director General, Jeff Poole, to the CANSO Asia Pacific Conference 2017 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, on 4 May 2017

4 May 2017

Jeff Poole touched on the impact of continuing growth in the region and the opportunities for sustained growth.

The theme of the CANSO Asia Pacific Conference 2017 was "Gearing for Growth in the Asia Pacific - Embracing Change, Building Capabilities". In his remarks to the conference, Jeff Poole, touched on the impact of continuing growth in the region and the increasingly complex operational environment. He said that to harness the power of new technology, ANSPs and industry suppliers must continuously look for new ways of working.

Highlighting how CANSO Members are working closely together in the region, Jeff Poole noted that more can be done to continue to benefit from rapid economic progress and better embrace developments within the industry, such as unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), ADS-B, remote tower technology, artificial intelligence and data analytics.

To continue to build capabilities in the region, Jeff Poole said that ANSPs and industry suppliers and partners need to work together to harness the power of innovation and collaboration, as exemplified in projects including the Multi-Nodal ATFM project, ASPIRE programme and other regional ADS-B data sharing and en-route PBN harmonisation initiatives. These, he noted, are excellent examples of delivering best practice, and demonstrate how change can be effectively managed, and new technologies successfully embraced for the benefit of the regional and global air traffic management communities both now and in the future.
