10 March 2016

In his remarks to the CANSO Global ATM Operations Conference on 10 March, in Madrid, Spain, CANSO Director General, Jeff Poole, focused on the future and some of the exciting plans that CANSO will be delivering to address the challenges of future airspace. He talked about how CANSO is working to incorporate new entrants to airspace such as remotely piloted aircraft systems; progress on resolving the problems that occur when an aircraft crosses from one Flight Information Region to another; future plans for investing in and implementing performance-based navigation; and how ANSPs might use space-based ADS-B to complement ground-based surveillance. Poole updated the conference on learnings from the first successful year of remote tower operations in Sweden. He highlighted the importance of partnership in working with airlines, airports and other partners to implement airport collaborative decision making and air traffic flow management. Poole  praised the contribution of CANSO’s Members who do the vast majority of CANSO’s successful work through the different workgroups and task forces.
