Remarks of Jeff Poole at the CANSO MEAUSE Conference

28 November 2013

CANSO Director General looks at the challenges faced by air traffic management in the Middle East in the face of increasing traffic demand. He sets out a vision of seamless airspace in the Middle East but stresses that this can only be achieved through greater cooperation and collaboration by all aviation stakeholders in the region. The CANSO Middle East ANSP, Airspace User & Stakeholder Engagement (MEAUSE) initiative plays a vital role in bringing ANSPs and stakeholders together to work for common solutions.

He explores the possibility of having a single Middle East sky; stresses the need to separate regulation from service provision; and urges States and the military to be more flexible about freeing up military airspace for civil air traffic.
