Strategy and Integration Quarterly Update

Quarter 1, 2019

In December, the Strategy and Integration Steering Committee (SISC SC) met in Brussels. The committee reviewed Vision 2020 deliverables and developed recommendations for the new focus areas of CANSO: Fit for the Future of ATM. These were presented to and accepted by the CANSO Executive Committee in January.  Members will be updated on the excellent progress during the CANSO CEO Strategy Summit on 11 March in Madrid.

CANSO’s annual Global Air Navigation Services Performance Reportis now available (see page 7). Thirty ANSPs participated in the 2018 report coordinated by the Global Benchmarking Workgroup (GBWG). Planning for the next edition will begin at a workgroup meeting in Singapore on 26-27 March. CANSO is welcoming new members to join for the next Performance Report, and invites Members to attend a Global Benchmarking Workshop on 25 March. Requests to join the Workgroup can be submitted to CANSO via your Focal Point.

The Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Implementation Task Force (NITF) has been reviewing progress on the ICAO Competency Based Training and Assessment Task Force and the ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) programme, and considering its future work plan and focus areas. Garry Jackson, Director Training Services, NATS, has been nominated as CANSO’s representative on the ICAO NGAP Task Force, with support from Greg Hindson Programme Manager, ATM Training Design & Prospective, ENAC. ICAO, through the NGAP program, seeks to raise awareness of the impending shortages of personnel and to promote cooperation within the global aviation and education community to attract, educate and retain the next generation of aviation professionals.

A global study on women in aviation, Soaring through the Glass Ceiling, in which CANSO has partnered with AIA, ACI World, IATA, IAWA, Korn Ferry and A4A is making strong progress. The survey phase is now complete with good global participation from women, business and HR leaders and educational institutions. Thank you to CANSO Members for your participation. Interviews and case studies will be conducted over the next two months and the final study will be released in Spring 2019.
