Uganda CAA awards aeronautical information services and management contract to Avitech

22 April 2016

Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has signed a contract with Avitech for Aeronautical Information Services and Management (AIS/AIM). The state-of-the-art technology will enable Uganda CAA to implement the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) AIS to AIM Roadmap.

Phase III of the AIS to AIM Project will provide UCAA with terrain and obstacles (eTOD) database and aeronautical charts generation (including ICAO). It will also provide some enhancements for AIS (Geodetic Map), complementing Phase II, which has already been implemented. Phase III will also provide obstacle survey and procedure design portals, airspace modelling and a number of work stations for use as simulators to train AIS providers and data originators.

Phase II was a crucial step to fulfill AIM digitalisation and automation. Phase II provided UCAA with the AIXM 5.1 (Aeronautical Information Exchange Model) Static Database and the generation of electronic aeronautical publications (eAIP). A data originator portal was also provided by Avitech to enable a quality management system (QMS) process of aeronautical data entry. Additionally, Phase II included the latest available AIS features including Flight Plan (FPL) and Briefing; and seamless web-mobile use from browsers, tablets or smart phones.

The automation of AIS functions began already in 2012 with Phase I, the new ICAO FPL provided by Indra.
