Zambia to Host CANSO Africa Conference in Livingstone

8 January 2014

20 December, Livingstone - National Airports Corporation Limited in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport Works Supply and Communications has announced plans to host a major international conference in the tourist capital Livingstone.

In a statement released in Lusaka today NACL Director of Air Navigation Services Frank Chinambu says the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation - CANSO- Africa conference is a high profile event, attracting CEOs, Directors, from ANSPs across Africa and other regions of  he world, and significant international partners such as ICAO, IATA, ACI and leading industry suppliers, who come together to exchange information and ideas on Air Traffic Management.

Mr. Chinambu says the Corporation is pleased to host the Conference scheduled for September 2014, because it is an opportunity to showcase strides made in the Aviation Industry in Zambia; and Livingstone as a tourist destination.

Mr. Chinambu says the CANSO conference will take place at the Zambezi Sun Hotel and is expected to attract at least 150 international delegates and 50 local participants.

He observed that the successful hosting of the Airports Council International General Assembly and Conference in August 2012; and the UNWTO General Assembly in August 2013 has placed Zambia on the world map adding that the officials from CANSO who came to inspect the facilities are impressed with what they have seen and are confident the Conference will be a success.

The last CANSO conference was held in Nigeria in October this year at which over 200 delegates from the Air Navigation sector on the continent were in attendance.

He stated that while the conference is a highly technical Aviation event, it creates an opportunity to showcase Livingstone as a tourist destination, thereby boosting tourist arrivals and in turn passenger numbers at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport, adding that this will increase the company’s revenue and ultimately contribute to the national economic development.
